Presenting “Don’t Look Up” at Dominican University

Last month I participated in the Roots of Innovation: Local-First Entrepreneurship conference at Dominican University. It was a pleasure to present alongside the brilliant Jared Joiner, Josh Nesbit, Humphrey Obuobi, and Glenn Poppe.

🤓 I nerded out and used the opportunity to try out a new talk I put together called "Don't Look Up," about how we can change the relationship our users have with tech and with each other, by changing our success metrics. I gave examples of tech product launches that used success metrics beyond session duration, including Khan Academy's LearnStorm, whose gamification is designed to get whole classrooms DANCING, Pokémon GO, whose haptic feedback is designed for people to keep their phones in their POCKETS, and Good Neighbor Lab bulletin boards, which are designed to get people TALKING to the people next to them.

❤️ Thank you Glenn Poppe and Wayne de Fremery for putting this event together and inviting me. I love working alongside local-oriented entrepreneurs, who are reimagining technology in service of local community.
